`350 cr works taken up by GTDC, ready to fund more projects: Sopte

Says corporation is making efforts to provide good facilities for tourists

Stating that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has taken up works of around Rs 350 crore in the State, GTDC Chairman Dayanand Sopte on Saturday said his corporation was ready to take up more works if requested by local panchayats.   

“We are making an effort to provide good facilities to foreign and Indian tourists coming to Goa. The tourism department along with GTDC has recently taken up work to set up parking and changing room facility in Morjim beach. In fact, several works of around Rs 350 crore has been taken up by GTDC in the State,” Sopte said.   

The GTDC chairman was speaking after laying the foundation stone for development of a roundabout and beautification of the road leading to Anjuna Beach from Bodgeshwar Temple to Verla Canca junction.   

WRD Minister Vinod Paliencar, Verla-Canca Sarpanch Milton Marques, panch members and department officials were present.   

Speaking further, Sopte said GTDC has provided parking, changing room and locker system facilities on popular beaches like Calangute, Candolim, Vagator and Anjuna in North Goa and even in South Goa.   

He said he was ready to provide more such beautification facilities, if there was demand.   

“If you require any more projects in your panchayat area, please let me know. We will take it up after our engineers prepare the project report,” he said.   

The work to develop the roundabout, beautification and signages of the road leading to Anjuna Beach from Bodgeshwar Temple to Verla Canca junction was taken up at a cost of around Rs 9 crore.   

WRD Minister Vinod Paliencar informed that the development of the roundabout near Verla-Canca was the need of the hour.   

He said several accidents had taken place in the area and since there was a demand of the locals the development of the roundabout was recommended in the area.   

“Beautification including illumination, roundabout and widening of the road is being taken up by GTDC at an estimated to cost of around Rs 9 crore. The work is expected to be completed within 240 days,” Paliencar said.
